Gene M. Parsons, age 87, of Penn Yan, New York passed away Monday, May 15th, 2017 at Geneva General Hospital.
Gene was born on July 19th, 1929 in Jamestown, NY, the son of late, Milton W. and Helen L. (Shepard) Parsons. Gene was a graduate of the old Penn Yan Academy and earned his BS degree from Hartwick College in Cooperstown. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Gene M. Parsons, age 87, of Penn Yan, New York passed away Monday, May 15th, 2017 at Geneva General Hospital.
Gene was born on July 19th, 1929 in Jamestown, NY, the son of late, Milton W. and Helen L. (Shepard) Parsons. Gene was a graduate of the old Penn Yan Academy and earned his BS degree from Hartwick College in Cooperstown. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He served with the 48th Medical Attachment , UN Blood Bank in Tokyo, Japan. Following his service he worked at the US Naval Air Rocket Test Station in Denmark Lake, NJ doing lab work for rocket propellants. Gene worked at the Experiment Station in Geneva and worked for many years in food quality control for Seneca Foods. He had also worked making PVC pipe at Certain-Teed Daymond in Geneva and for Transelco a division of Ferro Corp in Dresden.
Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace Parsons; nieces and nephews, Dawn Hicks of Canandaigua; Michael (Peggy) Parsons of Holley, Tracy Taylor of Penn Yan, William (Hilda) Chappell of Baldwinsville, Mary Frankel of Cortland, Elizabeth Reagan of Candor, Patricia (John) Wehrle of Bell, West Virginia, Alice (Rob) Schmidt of Blodgett Mills, Sarah (Stu) Strickland of Pittsburgh, PA, Margaret (TJ) McAvaney of Illion, Katherine (Kevin) Baker of Syracuse, John (Ellen) Fox of Georgetown, Thomas (Jeannie) Fox of New Woodstock, and Nancy (Mark) Haws of DeRuyter; brother in law, John (Mary) Fox of DeRuyter; as well as, several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and great great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by his brother, Charles Jerome Parsons; niece, Susan Chappell; and nephew, Gary Hicks.
Friends and family may call from 10am to 11am at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, 166 Main St., Penn Yan, NY 14527 on Saturday, May 20th, 2017. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at the church at 11am. Interment will be held at the convenience of his family at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.
